Dick,
As I was writing this reply to you, AbiWord crashed.
Hmmm, that hasn't happened to me before with other
word processors. I guess I'm supposed to save the
file as I'm writing it. I see the asterisk appears
before the letter's title when it hasn't been saved.
Now, if I can just remember what I wrote.
Your trick of modifying AbiWord's configuration file
worked like a charm. Thank you very much.
I may decide to save files in the native AbiWord
format after all. As I was searching to find out what
version that AbiWord saves DOC files in (Word 6.0,
Word 95, or Word 97/2000/XP), I realized that all the
major word processors use their own file formats.
Also, I ran across this interesting article on why you
shouldn't use the doc format:
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html
Now AbiWord just crashed again. Fortunately I had
just saved this. Is this crashing common? I'm losing
track of the things I wanted to say.
Now AbiWord crashed a third time when I wasn't even
typing. Ollydbg (a debugger) gave me an error
message, but I lost it before getting back to this
letter. I had Open Office open in another window when
I was typing this on AbiWord, in case that had
anything to do with the crashes. I use Windows XP on
a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of memory, and I'm using
AbiWord 2.4.6.
I had a couple other points to make, but I've
forgotten them now. Thanks again for the information
on how to modify the configuration file.
        Bob
