Hopefully a Mac user can add to this answer:
This has nothing to do with AbiWord. Your Mac is treating all .doc
files as "AbiWord" documents - probably because AbiWord was the most
recently installed program that CAN handle .doc files.
Somewhere there is a place to change your default program for .doc
files. Can you open a "properties" dialog for any .doc file? Maybe
start looking there for an "open with..." menu item.
