I'm sorry for you...
	SourceSafe has to be one of the worst source control systems 
in existence!  It doesn't use a database model for storage, NOR a 
client/server model for transactions - it's entirely file system 
based!!

	If your company is predominately Wintel, that's 
understandable since SourceSafe usage from Visual C++ on Windows is 
quite nice (as one would expect since that's what they use internally 
at Microsoft).   However, you'll find that anyone doing x-platform 
work (Unix, MacOS, etc.) has switched away from SourceSafe to either 
CVS or Perforce.
	If you REALLY need a SourceSafe client for Linux, there is a 
company that sells one for other flavors of Unix, so I wouldn't be 
surprised to see that they've also ported it to Linux.

	It is NOT a trivial task, and many parts of the 
implementation are proprietary to Microsoft (as one would expect).
