We made a deliberate decision to keep the lists closed -- anyone can
subscribe, but you have to be subscribed to post. In your case, this is
probably a bit frustrating, but the alternative is worse.
In a word, spam. :-(
A majority of the bounced emails to these mailing lists are spam. By
keeping the lists closed, we can avoid almost all spam traffic to the lists.
Considering the hundreds of people subscribed, this is a Good Thing.
