There is a general safety rule that should (but not usually)
applied in a Windows system: turn off write back caching. This,
as is obvious, writes the information to disk immediately, so in
the event of a power interuption, for instance, you will not
have lost any information.
To apply this setting open up your Device Manager, select each
Hard Disk's Properties and then the Policies tab (Windows XP) or
whatever it is called in Vista.
You will have insured yourself from default settings that lead
to a periodic reinstall!
