There have been a couple attempts to refactor the documentation - if you 
want to see immediate improvements, make patches to the files in the 
"abiword-docs" module (this is all in ABW format)  I think there is a 
DocBook manual started but not a suitable replacement yet.  Build docs 
should be in abi/docs and should be relatively up to date.  ./configure 
--help also can help with such technical matters.
