First off I would encourage you to make a donation to help fund Abiword
development, as Abiword is run entirely by volunteers. ;)
Abiword should behave much the same as any other program.

The Abiword uninstaller will only remove the Abiword program folder. Your
documents will not be touched so long as you have not saved them all to
the Abiword program folder, and have put them somewhere else safe like
your "My Documents" folder. You could probably install the new version of
Abiword directly over the old version but on the very small chance it
doesn't work perfectly we wouldn't recommend it. The other abiword
settings are stored in a file called Abiword.Profile and they are also not
removed by the Abiword uninstaller (on rare occassions causes problems and
has to be cleared out after an upgrade).

Not at this time. Abiword does not currently provide a direct way to mail
built in way to send a document to your email program. However I would
seriously encourage you to carefully consider if you really want to use
attachments instead of pasting the message directly in your mail and get
the message to the reader faster without requiring them to open up another
program.
