It is nice that you are willing to try 1.1.4; in fact, it's outright daring.
I feel obligated to point out that 1.1.4 is not meant for production use (nor will 1.9). These are for working out bugs on our way to producing Abiword 2.0. You should probably stick with stable 1.0.5 (unless you enable gnome, then wait for 1.0.6).

Second off, when you have a bug (as in something that can't be answered with a help document, or something flat out wrong...LIKE CRASHING! ;o) ) we ask you file them in their official place:
Once you've joined (quick email confirmation), and get the bug filed, a developer can get to work on, and both you and that developer can chart the progress via that bug.
Also, include information on options and modules you included on building, as well as the version of the specific distribution you were using.
