If you are using RedHat i recommend you use the RPMs supplied by redhat or
the RPMs supplied by Ximian (redcarpet is, nice and easy to use).

Please try an up to date version of Abiword. We are now on 1.0.x stable
branch. Using older versions is not recommended.
Please try the RPMs (gtk is easier than gnome)
Uninstall the old version of Abiword (move and remove the Abiword.Profile
from ~/.Abisuite as well) completely before you install the new version.

The abisource website should be back up or you can get downloads from
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/abiword/

be warned, there are a few font configuration problems with Abiword which
people regularly complain about but that can be worked around (and have
    been resolved in CVS).

    Sincerely
    Alan Horkan

    you need to

im sure it is in the build documentation
