Tables will not be in v1.0
version 0.9.6 will come out in the next few weeks and then there will be
feature freeze, lots of bugfixing and then a 1.0 release (i dont know
when though).
Why no tables? Tables are hard to do, or more accurately they are hard to
do well. The Developers try very hard to make sure that things "Just
Work".
It is important to have a v1.0, many people wont use software that is not
at least version 1.0 (and a whole bunch of reasons which were discussed ad
nauseam on the developer mailing list
http://www.abisource.com/mailinglists/abiword-dev/ ).

Abiword is run entirely by volunteers. You dont have to be able to
program to be useful but it helps (i dont consider myself an abiword
programmer yet).

Star Office/Open Office do(es) tables
