commit -- more makefile madness...

i've updated the makefiles and the build process (again)
as part of my continuing effort/pain of building
binary releases and getting the details of our
distribution layout settled out. (this is sort of
a strawman, so it may change a bit more....)

i added another source tree "abidistfiles" which is
a peer to "abi" and "expat" and .... this will have
large and seldom changed files (like the dictionaries).
they are in a separate tree to help keep tarballs
small(er).

i did some other housekeeping on the makefiles
so they should build a little faster and with less
polution thoughout the tree.

i fixed the problems building on Win32 on disks
other than the C: disk (getting bash's //d/abi/...
pathnames and M$'s LIB d:\abi\... commands to play
nicely together...) sigh.

questions/problems/flames to me,
jeff
