"Jitters"

[OS -- xubuntu 12.04]

I've been an Abiword user for several years - not that it offeres more
features than Openoffice writer or now Libreoffice writer but i just
preferred it being slightly more lightweight for my uses. The current
version in the repos 2.9.2 (which i've noted now is a development
version) appears to suffer from "jitters" i.e. i can be typing a
document and then when i delete a word or sentence and retype i seem
to get the line appearing in different places. Sometimes when i type a
letter i have no problem at all... sometimes several lines go missing,
save and exit, into abiword and all is ok. Hmm to me that is a bit
worrying. Another thing that seems to happen is a line maybe half way
down the screen gets the top half cut off. Sometimes scrolling seems
to rectify this.... but more often not.

So last week i gave up on Abiword and started using Libreoffice
writer. All ok until yesterday when i wrote a letter... 'balderdash' -
jitters weren't so bad but the top half cut off was back.

Anyone else had this problem or can explain a solution. It doesn't
seem like a bug with either app - previous versions were fine... so
there must be some fault with the ?. But i haven't noticed any problem
with Leafpad or Gedit so what could be the next step to analysing a
solution.

I'm convinced now that it's NOT an abiword problem. i've tried
swopping keyboard, graphics card and now i've decided on changing
distro. Just wondering if anyone else has had or heard of such a
problem.
