Here's what I have to do to create an envelope within Abiword with proper
margins for printing on Envelope #10 media. Although I'm seeing better success
printing envelopes with Abiword vs. OpenOff, Abiword pushes the margins
slightly to the right on envelope printing on my HP 1522nf laser printer.
(OpenOff would force margins too far to the left, etc, but finally got it
working by changing the print direction buttons to non-standard options. After
years of fiddling and now this hype, I'm finally migrating to Abiword, but not
before using VIM for awhile. ;-)
To create an envelope within Abiword:
1) File > Page Setup and configure for Envelope #10
2) Configure for landscape printout
Set proper return address margins
1) Move left margin to 3.125“
This fixes printing the envelope too far to the right!
2) Move top margin to 0.1875“
Move the address further to the top as it looks better closer to the edge.
Set proper addressee margins
1) Move left indent to 3.50“
Centers the addressee to compensate for correcting the left margin above.
Configure printer to defaults by setting "Default paper size: Letter" and "Tray 1
size/type: Any".
Choose print, leaving Page Setup at their defaults (Paper type/source:
Unspecified/Auto). Select OK to print.
I'm still hunting each time on how to create an envelope if I haven't done this
operation for awhile. MS Word & OpenOff had "creating evelope" menu links for
this common task. But, once I create an envelope, I've saved it and used it
for the next envelope task.
One side note, I'm not seeing keyboard keys for "increasing and decreasing
indent". A common task performed within VIM here, is shift+v, cursor up/down
to select text lines, shift+< or shift+> to increase/decrease indents. Of
course, prefix shift+</> with a number to increase indents ($number * 5
chars).
When typing, always like to keep fingers on the keyboard, refraining from going
to a mouse.
