I am running Abiword 2.6.3 on Slackware 12.2, and it runs fine.
However, over the summer, I played around with Ubuntu 9.04 on my
laptop, and with the then-current Abiword package for Ubuntu, and
I *did* experience similar "screen-garbage" - it seemed to follow
the cursor, leaving underscores behind.
