debugging problems with speech recognition

okay, I've tried two different versions of NaturallySpeaking and both fail the
same way which is probably an abiword failure. If you dictate "some words" and
then say "scratch that", the phrase "some words" should be deleted.
Unfortunately, Nuance decide to be "clever" and not use a simple backspace
sequence. From what I understand, they use a left arrow shift key selection
process then a c-x to remove the text. Yes another should work but it doesn't.
The only thing that happens is a single character is deleted and
NaturallySpeaking thinks everything is done.

Is there any way to capture characters or text and see what the heck is going on
in abiword?
