Can't install dictionary

I don't know how to install a plugin. I downloaded the dictionary and
executed it. This put a folder in my Program Files\Abisuite2 folder.
This new folder contains two files: american.hash and
ispell_dictionary_list.xml. Then I went to C:\Program
Files->AbiWord->Tools->Plugins->Install new plugin. I navigated to the
american.hash file and attempted to install it. I got an error message
that said;

        american.hash is not a valid Windows image. Please check this
        against your installation diskette.

I obviously don't know how the plugin function works. Please help.

I'm using Windows XP and have AbiWord 2.6.8. I downloaded the program
from the web after searching for in with Google.
