Usually the Insert key is labelled "Insert" (somtimes labelled Ins) and is
situated above the Delete key (Delete, not Backspace) but you may have an
unusual keyboard.

Before removing Abiword you can always first try "restore to factory
settings" by deleting the file Abiword.Profile (explained further in the
FAQ) rather than deleting the whole of Abiword. Not certiain it applies
in this case though.

there is an outstanding request that asks to make it possible to change
between Insert and Overwrite modes by clicking on that part of the status
bar.
