strange behavior

Hi all,
I am using Abiword with Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) , but it seems to be
behaving in a very strange manner.
If I have left a word out, when I place the curser in position to add
the missing word, and start typing,
it removes the next letter as I type the new word. If I place the
curser between 2 words and press the space bar
to add extra space, it does the same, removes the next letter in that
line. More than on space, more than one letter is removed.
Any one have any ideas?
