Switching to British dictionary for spellcheck

I hope someone can tell me how to get Abiword to switch to British
spelling. I'm running version 2.4.6-1on Ubuntu 7.04, and have the
standard aspell dictionaries installed, which includes British
spelling. However, Abiword uses American, even if I change the default
language to English (UK). I can't find an option in either the
Preferences menu or the spellcheck command to change it.
