What about asking the slackware folks to package a recent gtk-only
version of AbiWord?
What about using third party slackware packages (as others have suggested)?
What about helping AbiWord getting rid of gnome dependencies? It's
mostly a matter of using more recent gtk widgets instead of deprecated
gnome stuff?
Finally, what about porting AbiWord to QT or OpenStep and become a
hero among Slackware AbiWord users?
Cheers,
Rob
