If you upgrade packages using your distribution's package tool
(apt/synaptic for debian-based distros, rpm/yum for redhat or rpm
distros), then yes, previous installations are taken care of.
It is not required, but highly recommended, to remove your
distribution's version of AbiWord before installing the AutoPackage.
Conflicting files will be backed up then overwritten, and restored if
you ever remove the autopackage version of Abi. However, if your
distribution tries to upgrade once you have installed the autopackage,
you may have problems.
