display bug

I had been totally unable to use abiword for much too long a time. I
had a display bug, duly reported, with a screenshot. It got passed
around and finally was blamed on the video driver, if I understood the
messages correctly. I upgraded, no dice. I used the install script.
Same version as from debian apt-get, no dice. Then I tried to open it
from a terminal window logged on as root, and it seems to display just
fine.

I will try the install script again, installing as a user instead of
as root and see what happens. Perhaps it's been a permissions problem
all along. Meanwhile, at least I can operate on some of my older
documents.

Just posting this in case I am not the only one. Anyone know what's
going on? 2.2.9 debian testing. daveA
