Here's another long email to add to this non-issue being discussed
here. The SET NOMAIL option is for mailing lists running Listserv. The
latest production release of Majordomo does NOT support this command.
It appears that work is in progress to include support for this
functionality in future versions of Majordomo. Other mailing lists that
this command might work on are either running software other than
Majordomo or running a beta version of Majordomo or have some other hack
in place.
Until Majordomo releases a version with this functionality and we're
upgraded to it, the easiest way to achieve the exact same functionality
is to set up a mailer rule to delete emails from this list (there is
both a "Sender" and "List-Id" header entry you can easily and reliably
filter on). You can also unsubscribe to the list and resubscribe to it
once you've decided whether or not it's worth your time having "yet
another subscription service to clutter your folder list with". While
it may not be optimal, it's what's available now. The mail filter rule
should take care of this the same as if you were able to set nomail.
As far as whatever is instructing you guys to try and "set nomail" and
causing all this frustration, it is flat-out wrong. I just resubscribed
to the mailing list and nowhere in any of our emails does it mention a
"set nomail" option so it looks like we're not the ones telling you
this. If someone else (gmane.org?) is offering this information
specifically in regards to abisource.com's mailing lists, they have
incorrect information posted and should be notified that it's wrong. If
it's just general information not specific to our lists, it most likely
is only intended for listserv or mailman managed lists, not Majordomo lists.
Hopefully this thread can die peacefully with less than 30 messages.
Thanks!
Mikey
