Dear List Members,
Can please anybody test this RTF file on Abiword/Linux:
http://www.jodelpeter.de/i18n/tamil/vowel-signs.rtf
You would need a Tamil font installed, to be able to see anything.
The fine Code 2000 font (http://home.att.net/~jameskass/) also includes
Tamil.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether and how it is possible to
display Tamil dependant vowel signs in isolation (without the dotted circle
which normally occurs when they are not attached to consonant), as needed
for educational material.
It should be possible to get this display by entering either SPACE+VOWEL
SIGN or NBSP+VOWEL SIGN, but all tests on Windows fail.
So there is a test needed whether the problem is due to the font, the
rendering engine (Uniscribe vs. Pango) or the applications.
For comparisons you can see the vowel signs in this table:
http://www.jodelpeter.de/i18n/tamil/xref-utf-8.htm
(But, at least on Windows, they all render with the dotted circle in the
browser).
Best Regards,
Peter Jacobi
BTW: The Windows version of AbiWord gives a very garbled display, as it
doesn't use Uniscribe for text rendering, AFAIK.
