Thanks, but the thanks should really go to the Developers. Answering
questions is just my way of trying to thank the developers for providing
the great software.

My guess would be that the version of Abiword for Windows that you are
currently using still has some glitches in the drawing code where the
space between letters is determined.
I think there may already be bug reports filed on the issue, see our
Bugzilla bug tracking system for more information.
