    I've just been looking at fink's abiword-2.0.2-21 on Mac OS X 10.3.2

When AbiWord starts, the current font is "Times New Roman" which is not
listed in the font list. Text in menus, boxes & tooltips is fine, but
ruler numbers have become boxes. Similarly, text ("once upon a time")
    typed in appears as boxes.

    The following fonts are listed:

    Al Bayan
    Apple Symbols
    Arial Hebrew
    Ayuthaya
    Baghdad
    Chalkboard
    Corsiva Hebrew
    DecoType Naskh
    Devanagari MT
    Euphemia UCAS
    GB18030 Bitmap
    Geeza Pro
    Gujurati MT
    Gurmukhi MT
    Krungthep
    Kufi Standard GK
    Mshtakan
    Nadeem
    New Peninim MT
    Plantagenet Cherokee
    Raanana
    Sathu
    Silom
    Thonburi

Most of these turn the sample (latin) text into boxes. The following
    are okay:

    Ayuthaya
    Chalkboard
    Euphemia UCAS
    Krungthep
    Plantagenet Cherokee
    Sathu
    Silom
    Thonburi

"New Peninim" turns the text into a single grey block, and "GB18030
    Bitmap" consistently crashes AbiWord.

Of the fonts which work okay, "Plantagenet Cherokee" is the best
    approximation to "Times New Roman".
