    While I agree that the table menu should not have all those submenus we
    would most likely continue to copy the defacto standard word processor
    and have Table, Insert Table.

    Having a submenu for as few as three items is generally not recommended (I
    think it might have been the Apple User Interface guidelines rather than
    the Gnome Guidelines where I read this).
    The extra clicks add up and get really annoying if you are repeating the
    same task a lot.

    Abiword has a far more flexible table system, allowing you to do things
    like insert a row before as well as after, and if more things were added
    to the Table menu (and they will inevitably be in the 2.2 branch) things
    would get very crowded.

    I filed a bug report on this bug Dom closed it, he doesn't hate submenus
    as much as I do.
