I generally don't like spec files with that much complexion.
My experience is it almost takes as much time to figure out how to get
it to meet your needs as it does to write a new one.
Simpler spec files with less options and macros are imho easier to
implement on different systems as you just change the options passed to
configure as needed, rather than looking through which macro does what
and which macro needs to be redefined to do what.
It's just a matter of different style.
I also don't like breaking packages into several sub packages - not for
end user machines anyway (I can understand it for servers where you
don't want a devel environment installed).
In this day - disk space is cheap, I can't even find new hard drives
under 30 gb (except maybe mail order). It thus seems (in my opinion
anyway) less complicated for the end user to package everything from a
build in one package.
Too many times I've seen users frustrated because they installed
something, it didn't do what they wanted, and the reason was because the
package had been broken up and they didn't install the right sub
package.
It's just a difference in style.
I'll cc the list with this, others might be curious to why I said I
didn't like that spec file.
Nothing about it struck me as bad - just a difference in style.
