almost every message (bizarrely enough, except yours it seems) has this
message automatically appended to the bottom of the message:

    -----------------------------------------------
To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to
    abiword-user-request@abisource.com with the word
    unsubscribe in the message body.

To subscribe to the list you needed to send a message to
    abiword-user-request@abisource.com
    containing the word subscribe.

note bene: -request is really important, it a completely differnt address
    than the list address.

similarly to unsubscribe you need to send a mail to
    abiword-user-request@abisource.com
    containing the word usubscribe.

Even though you are leaving the mailing list I hope you will continue to
    use and enjoy abiword.

    Sincerely
