I have read the info on http://www.abisource.com/abi2_status.phtml. I
realize that the feature freeze is a good thing but I wanted to comment
on how I, as a user, view what is basic table support in response to
    the following comments.

"AbiWord's table support is quite solid now, though a few minor/trivial
bugs remain. There are some features about tables that AbiWord does
not (yet) support, but they aren't that commonly used and all the
really important stuff is here. The current table system is much more
stable than it would be had we focused more on adding obscure features
    than fixing bugs."

There are three items that, imho, make tables something more than a way
to separate data with lines, and ,I don't think, are not obscure to
    users :)
    1. Cell protection, the ability to lock cells.
    2. Disable the cursor in protected cells. The cursor skips over protected
    cells.
    3. SUM, add the contents of a column of selected cells.

Hopefully I haven't missed these features in my reviews of Abiword. I
like Abiword, the fast single purpose aspect, but Tables is how I
organize and gather data for my business. These features significantly
    speed up the work flow.
