    Yes. Gnome2 has a program/library called Gucharmap
    that I've worked on/with a bit.

    If you have Hucharmap installed and then build
    AbiWord, AbiWord's "Insert Symbol" dialog will use
    Gucharmap as a shared library to do this sort of
    thing.

    Also, there are many auto-correction type bugs in
    bugzilla. We won't be "fixing" any of them in the near
    future, but some sort of pluggable/tunable
    auto-correction framework is under consideration for
    some future release.
