    I am on the right path, having "osmosized" that the contents of *.app
    were the command line commands.

    However, it is the XAbiWord, rather than the AbiWord_d that will start
    another instance in Aqua (for me).

    I guess the problem is that it isnt opening a window in X until I go
    back to Aqua and ctl-n, or ctl-o, as it were, to open a window within
    x. I suppose this is a simple scripting matter, but im a recovering
    wintel person, so if it isnt a dos script, I am mostly lost. (although
    i seem to have mastered xinitrc fairly well, LOL).
