[Strangely, I only received the private copy of this mail, although it was
sent with a CC to the list. I recall at least one other case in which it
looked like someone was replying to a mail that *should* have appeared on
the list, but didn't -- has anyone else had similar experiences? Maybe
there is some problem with the list server? OTOH, I'm having serious
problems reaching abisource.com now -- maybe it's just sloooow.]

Maybe. I recall reading somewhere that the vi/emacs mode is still on the
to-do list rather than in the source (please someone correct me if I'm
wrong). I can't connect to bugzilla now, so I can't check, but I recall
seeing several reports concerning vi mode there. Maybe there are some
comments in them indicating the developers' intentions wrt these modes.
