    Try using "bar" tabs to position the text and use the
    "topline" "botline" to outline the cells. Bar tabs gives youa line that
    extends from the top to the bottom of a line at the tabstop. The topline
    botline decoration is line underline execpt it runs along the very top and
    bottom of the line. Using these you can outline cells in abiword and make
    things that look like tables. I've used it a fair bit.

    This is the closest we'll get to tables for a while I'm afraid.
