    I'm not sure of the intent of the original poster -- you've received at
    least two correct answers. A third answer is that you can open the .abw
    files with an ordinary text editor -- of course you will see all the XML
    tags within <angle brackets>. But, you see your text as well. (And, in
    essence, this is a variety (or precursor?) of the "view codes" option
    that some have requested.
