Hear, hear! Abiword has the potential to be a Word-killer, but only if it
has tables support. These days, no word-processor which lacks this can be
called "fully featured". With tables, I could honestly recommend Abiword to
my colleagues (for whose computers I am responsible!) which would mean they
wouldn't have to use Windows in order to use Word (I tried pushing LyX, but
it's too unfamiliar for most users, StarOffice eats RAM like there was no
tomorrow, and KWord confuses the hell out of everybody!).
