That's quite strange. The issues with the two versions should be the
same.
Do you have the fonts installed (in /usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts,
probably)?
Do you have Load "type1" in you XFree86 config file?
Are you using XFS or do you specify fonts in the XF86 config file?
