JWL sent me a document, and it printed fine here with the released
AbiWord 0.7.10. On the other hand, two documents NS sent me both
showed the print problems. (Everything looked fine on the screen.) I
don't know if it's because it's two different problems or because
cosmic rays or some other force prevents me from seeing the problem in
JWL's sample.

The good news is that the problems in NS's samples are gone when I run
them with a more recent AbiWord. In fact, the version is so recent
that it includes some patches I have just earlier today sent to the
abiword-dev list. The patches correct some problems that are
tangentially related to character spacing. I can't think of any
reason that the changes should fix this problem, but who knows. It's
also possible that some other change made by some other developer
after the 0.7.10 release happens to fix this problem.

Anyone with the inclination can get nightly dumps of the source code
and/or nightly Linux binaries via the abisource web site (follow the
developer or source code links).
