I don't know for a fact that I need 7.0. I just assumed that with this
many complaints from RPM about dependencies that an operating system
upgrade would be necessary. Below is what I get when trying to install
using RPM:
gtk+ >= 1.2.7 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
glib >= 1.2.7 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
gnome-libs >= 1.0.57 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
gal >= 0.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
gnome-print >= 0.25 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
pspell >= 0.11.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libaspell.so.7 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libgal.so.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libgdk_pixbuf.so.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libgnomecanvaspixbuf.so.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libgnomeprint.so.11 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libspell_aspell.so.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libspell_impl.so.3 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libspell_ispell.so.0 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libspell_modules.so.1 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libspell.so.2 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
libunicode.so.0 is needed by abisuite-0.7.12-1GNOME
Not being especially smart, I'm assuming that the packages I've got
installed either don't include these, or include earlier versions. I
figured that meant I'd need the statically linked version of Abiword, so I
also downloaded all 4.7 mb, unzipped it, ran install.sh, which appeared to
work, but when I run the program, all I get is a momentary splash screen
(the picture of the ant and the logo) and then nothing.
I don't know if the problem is that my system isn't configured correctly,
or if Abiword 0.7.12 is at fault. I've also completely reinstalled Redhat
6.2 from CD, using the graphical install and taking the defaults for a
gnome workstation, if that's any help. Like I say, 0.7.11 installed
without a hitch (RPM version) and worked well.
Cheers,
Drew
