You need to add a new MIME type to KDE. You can either do that in your
~/.kde/share/mimelnk or (if you have root access) in $KDEDIR/share/mimelnk.
Once you've done that, add AbiWord to the Applications (you may not need to
do this if it is already on your KDE menu), and make the .abw mime-type the
default file type (or something like that. I haven't used KDE 1.x in a while -
2.0 makes it much simpler, when it works :).
