Application Name: Ursu Dumitru Email: dimaursu16@gmail.com Project Title: Improve ODF support Synopsis: This is a project of increasing the compliance of AbiWord with ODF specification, and to fix the bugs related to importing/exporting from ODF. There is much work to do related to bugs, as a quick search: http://bugzilla.abisource.com/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=odf reveals us around 45 bugs. Benefits to the AbiWord (and/or other) project(s): ODF is becoming a new standard in the area of word processing, and AbiWord needs to provide very good support for it. Deliverables: When I will finish the project, AbiWord will have all the ODF-related bugs fixed, and provide reliability in using this format. Project Details: A more detailed description of your project. Project Schedule: Before the midterm evaluation all specifications which are not yet implemented, should be done, and rest of the time should be spent on increasing the quality of it ( fixing bug, optimizing ). I don't know yet whether there is much to do in implementing it, but I'm guessing is not, because this feature is already present and is working. As schedule: around 50 bugs, for the first 2 weeks I expect to get a grasp of this project and fix my first 1 or 2 bugs, which leads us around to 4 bugs per week. And I guess this counts as a method of measuring the progress done by me. I there will be unpolished things, I will be able to work in my spare time in the rest of the year. When can you begin work? 20 of May, as scheduled by Google I guess is okay, although I will still have exams at university, I will skip them to the autumn. Do you know of any planned absences or other major conflicts (summer classes, vacations, etc.) As I said, I do have several things related to university ( exams ) but I can postpone them. Bio: I'm a student in second year, at Technical University of Moldova, Computer Science, group FAF-101. I was born in a village from Republic of Moldova, and at early age I was passionate about computers. At first there were games, then I got interested in hardware, and generally how they work. Then, in 2010 I was searching for a small operating system for a old laptop. I found Puppy Linux (AbiWord is there by default), and I got interested in Free software. Since second semester I use only Free operating systems, although it becomes hard sometime because most of the teachers use Windows. I want to contribute to AbiWord, because I want to give something back to the great community all around the world which makes available such great pieces of software, and of course I want to improve my skills in programming, and especially dealing and working within a large project as AbiWord is. I believe that AbiWord has his place in word processing , because is very lightweight, especially compared to behemoths like LibreOffice. This is the link to a screen shot of the AbiWord debug messages: The important one is marked in yellow. http://i.imgur.com/8Pn4t.pngpplication Name: Ursu Dumitru Email: dimaursu16@gmail.com Project Title: Improve ODF support Synopsis: This is a project of increasing the compliance of AbiWord with ODF specification, and to fix the bugs related to importing/exporting from ODF.
