Hi Guys,

First and foremost, I want to thank the Link Grammar
folks for their fine product. I hope that it will be
of some great use to us in AbiWord-land.

I made some changes to the link grammar checking
package that I will be sending upstream to them
shortly. In case they don't accept my changes, I'm
releasing my extensions under their same license:

http://www.abisource.com/~dom/link-grammar-4.1.1.tar.gz

Respecting their license condition #3, if I fail to
get their permission to redistribute my derived
product, or if they do not accept my changes upstream,
I will change its name to "abi-grammar" or something
similar.

What is it: Link 4.1b from
http://www.link.cs.cmu.edu/link/ with some
alterations.

My changes have all been pragmatic changes meant to
facilitate ease of 3rd-party adoption. Neither their
algorithm nor data has been altered. So what changed?

*) Autoconf-ized, which means that it has a nice
framework for potentially increased portability
*) Automake-ized has standard Makefile targets like
install, clean and dist
*) Libtool-ized, which means that it now generates
shared and static libraries (it generated neither
before)
*) The headers and data files get installed
*) The data, headers, libraries, and executables are
now namespaced and versioned
*) Contains a PKG-CONFIG file for easy 3rd-party
consumption (pkg-config --cflags --libs link-grammar)
*) Redhat RPM spec file
*) Win32 support, via mingw and cygwin
*) Easily redistributable, thanks to make
dist/distcheck

I'll make some changes to our forthcoming
grammar-checking plugin to use this package after I
send the link-grammar guys an email.

Best,
Dom
