Hi Alan,

the "Web Folders" give limited access to a WebDAV-server, or at least to
the one I use, eXist XML-DB. For example, if an AbiWord document has been
imported into the server, you can pick the corresponding Web Folder in the
AbiWord open-dialog and open the document. It displays correctly. However,
if you try to save changes you get the following error message: "Writing
error when attempting to save <URI of file>." It seems to me, that these
Web Folders are only for reading access of ressources.
There are tools, even freeware tools (e.g. Netdrive), that map a
WebDAV-Ressource to a local drive letter. But, with respect to
collaborative editing, the disadvantage is, that they make an offline copy
of the file and store it in a local temp-folder. After editing it is
uploaded to the WebDAV-server. There might be problems with concurrent
changes if several persons work on the same document. For this reason I
think, that a native WebDAV support in AbiWord would be an really
interesting feature.
Best regards
Marco
