What's needed is that someone gets the Cyrilic fonts working on
his or her machine, and then makes tgz file from the entire
directory (not just the files in it, the locale specific subdirectory as
well). This way the user will be able to download the whole thing
and just extract it under the fonts directory, and have a working set
of fonts in a correctly named locale specific directory. (If he or she
does not like these fonts that's OK, at least they will have template
to follow in replacing them with fonts they prefer). We should have
font packs with Type1 fonts only; we can provide others with TTF
too (clearly marked), but since we cannot assume ttf support in X,
the basic pack should be Type1 only.
We _must_ do this before the 1.0 release, we cannot release
without font packs for at least the most common encodings (Latin-
2, KOI-8 stem to mind; I have got a font pack from and Israeli user
for iso8859-8; I also recall Vlad Harchev created a font pack for
koi8-r, but we never made it publicly available).
So could someone who is also on the users list send a message
there that we are looking for such font packs, and some with
sufficient priviledges please create a download area for this on
SourceForge, so we can start uploading :-).
