Basically all that does(on windows, at least) is determine what is already
selected for file type when you go to the "save as" dialog. When you click
on the save button it apparently still reverts to the native abiword format.
I'm not sure if Abiword is yet smart enough to know when it is dealing with
just a plain-text file.
I have forwarded this to the developers list, just so they can ponder a real
life word processing dilemma that someone is in.

The text file name that I need to edit and save is always called
"s3vvg0l3.1TMP". Will the below change work so the file remains text
only or
will it only work if the file name ends in ".txt"?

There is a solution
(thanks dom for clarifying)

you need to edit your Abiword.Profile
in unix that is in ~/.Abisuite/Abiword.Profile
in windows it is in C:\windows\Profiles\Application
Data\Abisuite\Abiword.Profile
(or something very close to that, i dont have windows in front of me
right
at this minute)

the Abiword.Profile may contain several different profiles
you must make absolutely sure that you change
scheme name _custom_

if it does not work then thats probably what has gone wrong.

you need to add the line
DefaultSaveFormat=".txt"

I hope that answers your question.

Alan Horkan
