Hi German,
I'm responsible for pspell support in abiword. AFAIK, there aren't any
problems with it. So I guess I'll talk about how we use pspell and try to
troubleshoot:
AbiWord uses pspell's C/C++ interface. For this to work properly, you need
to have configured pspell and aspell with --enable-ltdl. pspell releases
numbered 0.12.x and above do this by default. This is the most common cause
of pspell not working with abiword.
PHP is probably calling pspell/aspell as an application, so you don't get
this problem.
