Sorry Vlad,
          For me the status bar (at the bottom of the screen) is always
on. I can't turn it off in the preferences. In addition the status bar
prefence in the dialog always shows it turned off no matter what I set
it to. I run rehdat 6.2 and redhat 7.0 non-gnome build.
